Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a submission grappling style of martial arts that addresses self-defense from a ground perspective knowing that confrontations end up there 90% of the time. It is a self-defense system that utilizes accurate positioning on the ground. In knowing and understanding these positions you will possess a tremendous advantage over those that don't.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu trains students to out-maneuver their opponents with technical positioning to maximize leverage and their ability to survive, escape, control, and/or finish their opponents. It is an entirely practical martial art full of technical positions, all of which maximize control and leverage for subsequent finishing holds and/or escapes. I personally like to look at it like a physical game of real world chess. You have to keep constant offensive pressure on your opponent to keep him defending. You have to disguise your intentions or your plan can be easily defended and even worse, countered into an offensive move of their own, putting you on defense.

On a recreational level, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will aid you in developing balance, coordination, cardio, and it will intrigue your mind with technical positions and situations all while having fun. At the competition level, you can test your wits and skills through sparring (or rolling) with classmates, competing in Jiu Jitsu tournaments, or using your groundfighting skillset in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.
